So I wrote a post (perhaps a rather poorly written post, now that I look at it) a few days ago about the need for more wind power sites, and mentioned writing your representatives about the unnecessary blocking of new wind turbines. I was realizing that of course one of the most basic ways in which we can influence an increase in the development of renewable energies is to purchase and use them ourselves. Ben and I recently began purchasing wind power for our apartment through Renewable Choice Energy. Even if there isn't a major wind farm immediately nearby you, since one's electricity is pulled from the national grid you can choose to pay slightly more to help support the development of wind farms so that a larger percentage of the electricity on the grid is from renewable sources. The Renew US website has information about purchasing wind power throughout the country (as well as other info about positively impacting climate change and reducing your carbon footprint).
